Fila Settanta Mark One

Hot on the heels of last week's influx of Fila Terrinda jackets (the Settanta Mark III) in some gorgeous new colours, this week sees the return of the jacket that started it all- the Settanta Mark I. The Mark 1 Settanta was originally launched in 1976 and was designed for tennis superstar Bjorn Borg.

As with many of the Fila tracksuits, polo shirts and jumpers, these jackets were adopted by the Casuals culture in the '80s- and demand for these has been refuelled by recent British films The Business and The Firm. The high-demand has prompted Fila to re-issue the Settanta One and a few other Fila classics too.

The Settanta Mark I is back in stock at Stuarts London, as well as a whole host of re-issued Fila goodies.

Fila Terrinda: New Colours

A true '80s classic from Fila's White Line Collection, the Fila Terrinda. Terrinda jackets are the rarest of the whole Fila collection, and was the first in the Fila range to be aimed at stylish spectators and big-name tennis players, which was apt given as in the '80s the Terrinda jacket was the most expensive item in the Fila collection.

The name Terrinda comes from the unique fabric used to make this jacket, which combined with the court-marking piping, with the biker-style collar and padded shoulder detail mark this jacket out as a sought-after jacket for the '80s casuals.

Fila are stirctly controlling the production run, so stocks are limited- originals from the 80s are fetching from £400 to £1200 on eBay, but buying a re-issue from Stuarts London is your way to getting the classic look without the crazy cost!

Wimbledon - Tennis Fila Matchday - Kelly Green

Fila Matchday in Kelly Green was one of the most rarest colours around back in the 80s. Many would argue that it wasn't even available in Menes, and was a colour released for the women's collection. That's not true, it was a colour that just wasn't produced enough, and the quantity was limited. Although this jacket has been released a few times, since the 80s, this is the best replica we have seen. The Blue zipper and the cut and sew side designs with the stripes is an exact one to one re-make by Fila. The Matchday retails for £65 at stuartslondon.com but please be aware from August 2010 the price is going to be increased to £75.00

Loads of new stock has poured into Stuarts and the feed back is the Ace polo is on nearly every purchase.

Fruity little number

‘Don’t get lemon!.’, ‘I am not getting lemon, helmet.’ (The Firm, Nick love, 2009), well now it is time to get lemon and either complete you Terrinda tracksuit collection, or make a bold statement of style this summer with the latest Fila release.

Donned as the ace in the pack of tracksuit tops, and as rare as rocking horse teeth, this stunning pastel coloured top, is the rarest of all the collection and comes hot on the heels of the release of the blue and green tops.

Topping the charts for price in the 80s, this trackie now tops the charts for cutting edge looks and values, as the Italian giant has overseen the quality and production of the limited run.

Otherwise known as the Matchday Mark 3 the velour feel top boasts the classic ‘Mondrian’ white piping lines, with the delicious low cut collar, allowing for your Fila 19th polo neck to stand proud out of the top.

There really is a case for either clearing out a space in your wardrobe for this gem, or just splashing out, due in no short part to the fact that the run is ‘very’ limited to say the least and complete your colours of the rainbow Terrinda range.

Stand out, stay sharp and get lemon.

Kim Clijsters

Clijsters wins in Miami!

Fila's favorite "comeback mom", Kim Clijsters, needed just 58 minutes to defeat Venus Williams 6-2, 6-1 to win the final of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. With daughter Jada cheering on her mom from the tournament's players lounge balcony, Kim won her second Sony Ericsson Open title.

She last played in Miami three years ago just before she retired from tennis to get married and start a family. Kim showed today that you can "have it all" and she thanked her support network of her husband, coach, trainer, family and nanny.

It took a lot of hard work to get back into shape and I have a few people to thank, including my fitness coach and husband," Clijsters said during the on-court ceremony. "It feels really good to be back here, having won the title in 2005. It's always nice to come back to a place you have done well before, and to such a beautiful stadium.

Backing up from her third-set tie-break win over countrywoman Justine Henin on Thursday night, Clijsters was in sparkling form, dictating play with her crisp ground strokes.

As reported by the Sony Ericsson Open media team, today's win is projected to lift Clijsters back into the Top 10 for the first time since she returned to the Sony Ericsson Open WTA Tour last year.

FILA HISTORY: 80S ARCHIVE NEWS

Jan 18, 2010, United Kingdom

The Fila Vintage track record for bringing back in-demand retro styling with its re-released originals is unsurpassed, but the Settanta Collection – a three stage release of the most legendary pieces from the 70’s and 80’s Fila archive.

In 1973 FILA launched its first tennis collection designed by Pierluigi Rolando. FILA White Line was the beginning of an era that saw FILA redefine sportswear with an injection of colour, and an iconic design signature. Adopted by the Italian playboys and country club crowd FILA became the sports brand everyone aspired to wear throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s.

Settanta Mark I
1976 (Matchday/BB1 Polo)
Settanta Mark I in the red, was the first tracksuit designed for Borg. The first version launched in 1976, with the iconic ‘F’ badge on the chest. In 1977 the dual branded FILA BJ line was seen for the first time at Wimbledon when Borg proudly lifted the trophy after having beaten Jimmy Connors in the final. Other popular Settanta versions were the Kelly Green and Peacoat Blue bodies with Gardenia side panels and pinstripe details, frequently worn by Borg at the US Open.

Settanta Mark II
1980 (Bjorna and Salice Polo)

Settanta Mark II, was the second of the FILA BJ trilogy, released in 1980. The looser fit and simplicity of colour marked a significant change in design signature. Available in Peacoat Blue, Ocean Blue and Chinese Red, all had a single horizontal chest stripe and asymmetric double shoulder detail, represents the two Grand Slam events where Borg had his most success, Wimbledon Championship and Roland Garros.

Settanta Mark III
1982 (Terrinda/Terrinda Polo)

Settanta Mark III known as Terrinda was launched in 1982 and the last FILA BJ collaboration. The biker style collar and padded shoulder detail was ahead of its time and highly fashionable in sportswear design. Terrinda was the first collection aimed not only at tennis players but also at the fashion forward spectators. It was to be cleaner in design than previous BJ collections incorporating the court marking piping as the key design feature. The unique fabric knit was expensive and made Terrinda the crown jewel of the 80’s casuals.

The inclusion of Terrinda and other key Fila originals within The Firm, helps celebrate the history of a true fashion forward authentic sportswear brand and introduce it to a new audience of future Fila collectors.

Nick Love said: “The Terrinda was, and still is, the last word in elite casual sports wear – to make The Firm without key characters wearing Terrindas would be criminal.”

The Settanta collection is available in limited edition quantities from selected retailers such as Stuarts London. After the first delivery the Red and Navy Terrinda jackets will be in stock from May 2010. Stuarts London has secured a limited quantity.

Fila have finally got a few more remakes and we love them all. The release of the Incontro track has been a massive hit. The Guys at Stuarts London sales team confirm that the new Fila collection is a winner. Most of the first delivery is nearly sold out and lucky Stuarts has secured a another replenishment. The latest arrival is the Alley track jacket sometimes known as Vilas to others, due to the low v design on the front as panel work. The classic retro track jacket is available in two colours. White with ocean and grey contrast or Red with black and grey contrast. The retro 80s revival has been a long time coming and super independent store such as Stuarts forecasted this change towards retro fashion a few years back. A great book with loads of pictorial images of the classic clobber we all once wore back in the 80s.
